USPS EDDM, explained through its tool

Almost every EDDM® mailing starts in the same place: the USPS EDDM Online Tool. This guide walks through it screen by screen, explains the map and the route table, and helps you pick routes that fit your business.

The short version

USPS Every Door Direct Mail® lets you mail a flat-size piece to every address on the carrier routes you choose, for $0.260 a piece through EDDM Retail. You don't need a mailing list. You need a USPS.com account, the EDDM Online Tool and a printed piece that meets the size rules.

The tool does four jobs:

  1. Finds routes around an address, city or ZIP Code.
  2. Shows data for each route: homes, businesses, and census age and household size.
  3. Builds the order, with the drop-off Post Office, date and cost.
  4. Prints the paperwork: PS Form 3587 and a facing slip for every route.
